Give Thanks

It’s 4.30 AM, and I didn’t know why I awaken. I stared at the blank ceiling, tried to hear any voices, and relieved that there wasn’t any sound of the rain. I thought of Jakarta and the flood. I prayed that today would be a sunny day.

I was grateful that I could move to Puncak as soon as the water got into my house. I checked my twitter for any updates in Jakarta. Some of my friends twit that they got the electricity again, some still on the black outs. The twits about how grateful they were caught my attention.

Isn’t it easy to be grateful when the flood get into your house and you still have the second floor to save yourself? Isn’t it pretty easy to be grateful when you still have food to eat? Isn’t it easy to be grateful when you still can twit, even in the middle of black out and flood? Isn’t it easy to tell other to be patient and grateful no matter what the situation are? Some of students even take this flood as the unexpected break and feel grateful about it.

But this morning I thought about people who’ve been evacuated because the water have sunk half of their house. People who don’t have access to clean water.
They who lost their relatives because of the flood. They who starved, who is sick, and have to sleep without shelter. I wonder if they still can be grateful. How could you be grateful when the cross you bear felt heavier than others? I tried to imagine myself in their position, and I doubt myself.

And I started to question what makes people grateful? What makes me grateful? I think I can be thankful for something when I stop comparing myself to others, or when I count my own blessings instead of others. I don’t know if people out there who experiencing the flood are grateful or not. May some of them do, and others don’t. But I realized that being grateful is a choice, a state of mind. A faith that our God is always good.

Sambungan Hati Jarak Jauh

“Halo”

“Hai, Sayang”.

“Ibu?! Ibu apa kabar?”

“Baik. Kamu sehat?”

“Sehat, Bu. Ibu kenapa jarang sekali menelepon?”

“Maaf, Nak. Ibu sibuk di sini.”

“Bagaimana di sana, Bu? Pasti suasanannya menyenangkan ya? Nggak sumpek seperti Jakarta”.

“Tentu saja. Ibu senang tinggal di sini. Bagaimana kuliah mu?”

“Lancar, Bu.”

“Syukurlah.”

 Aku kangen masakan Ibu”.

“Masih sering pulang malam, Bu. Ayah kelihatan lebih lelah akhir-akhir ini”.

“Ingatkan Ayahmu jangan kerja terlalu ngoyo. Nggak baik untuk kesehatan”.

“Mana mungkin Ayah menurut, Bu? Ayah cuma nurut sama Ibu”.

“Iya, Bu.”

“…”

“Aku rindu Ibu”.

“Ibu juga”.

“Siapa yang menelepon malam-malam begini, Ras?”

“Ibu, Yah”.

“Ibu?”

“Iya. Ayah mau bicara? Ini Ibu jauh-jauh telepon dari Surga”.

“Astaga, Raras. Kamu lupa minum obat lagi ya?”

A First Step: Cotton Candy Love

Yeaay! Finally my first novel has been published! And it comes to look like this:

picturetakenfrom:pustakabentang.blogspot.com

Penulis : Priscila Stevanni
Penyunting : Ikhdah Henny
Penerbit : Bentang Belia
Jumlah halaman : 256 hlmn
Harga : Rp 39.000
ISBN : 978-602-9397-73-4

I love the design. Sweet and simple.

This is my first book, so do criticize me. I’ll appreciate it a lot. Happy reading, readers!

Best regards,
A happy writer!

GRACE

My little sister very fond of this video, and she still watch it over and over again until today. I suggest you watch it first before you continue reading this post.

I remember the first time my sister watched it, she asked me ‘What is grace?’

How do you explain grace to an eight-year-old girl? I answered grace is when you get something good you don’t deserve. I don’t know if that is a good explanation or not and I don’t know if she get it or not either, but I found that this video is interesting for her. May be because the law of human doesn’t occur here.

I still watch this video with her sometimes, and it reminds me a lot that the salvation we get really is something we don’t work for. And how it is such a great blessing to know Him and accept Him as my one and only savior. Come to think of God’s grace, I realize it defies human understanding. And I know only Him can do such incredible thing. Only Him can give His life to save the sinners.

These days lately, one of my friends talks a lot about grace. Little things that we might miss. Little things that we might not pay attention to. Like the air we breathe, the rain we complained for, or even our health. And I’ve been reminded that grace is a little big things God never forget to give us.

Cuti Sakit Hati

Mili
“Gue capek.

Giska
“Umur 22, dan masih belum punya pacar. Bakal jadi apa ya hidup gue? Alasannya? Gue takut mulai lagi. Gue takut jatuh dan merasa sakit lagi. Tapi, alasan sebenarnya sih… Gue masih belum bisa melupakan dia”.

Jana
“Cewek tuh benar-benar merepotkan!

Let’s take a break and have each other!
